Since 1999 my inspiration has been New York City: I had the feeling that my art was good enough to grapple with this city that has always been fascinating me.
In New York City I found the adaption perfect between what I see and what I feel: A world of inner tensions, full of contrasts, of changes in the likeness of my work.
O.Catte 2003
About my abstract works: It is not possible for me to give an interpretation of my paintings.
Because I want them to be an expression of a speechless emotion. I like to quote Barnett Newman when he says that aesthetics interests artists as much as ornithology does birds.
My way of expressing myself is in painting, the other languages express different things that don't concern me. Painting is my natural tool.
The pursuit of being an artist has been the only constant thing in my life for as long as I can remember. I believe that everything that happens to me can be transformed into color and therefore into paintings.
I paint to see.
O.Catte 2004
"From painting that is nominally abstract to figurative painting that only achieves an imperfect representation of reality, O.Catte explores to the point of exhaustion the real field of painting in its essence and spirit."
Ch.Freck, Paris 2003
